Consultancy to Timber Value Chain Project of GFI Foundation

This project encourages small farmers to grow fast-growing timber instead of oil palms by creating strong market incentives for sustainable wood production.

Planting fast-growing trees is a challenge in itself. Another challenge lies in developing the market so that this lightweight, fast-growing timber can later be processed and sold as a high-value product. In the end, it is the market—and therefore money—that will determine the success or failure of reforestation.

This project aims to give small-scale farmers a strong incentive to invest in timber instead of palm oil by encouraging them to plant fast-growing lightwood species rather than oil palms.
